Interlegal succeeded in claims handling upon demurrage recovery

A large Bulgarian shipowner applied to Interlegal for recovery of several demurrages arisen in 2014.

The charterer confirmed debt partially but payment in favour of the shipowner was delayed. Interlegal lawyers drafted and sent the motivated claims to the debtor and started negotiations upon voluntary debt recovery. Document assessment and negotiations resulted in the charterer’s consent to make payment. Interlegal senior lawyer Andrey Perepelitsa and lawyer Ekaterina Gadetskaya arranged the amount payable to the shipowner and drafted the dispute settlement agreement under which demurrage was recovered in the agreed manner.

As shown by Interlegal statistics upon shipping claims handling, over 70% of disputes upon demurrage recovery , in case of timely application to the lawyers, result in amicable agreement between the parties which facilitates avoiding legal fees upon demurrage recovery at the arbitration.
