Changing the flag for the pleasure yacht

The client applied to Interlegal on changing the flag for the pleasure sailing yacht 30 meters long.
The need to change the flag was caused by changing the classification society; the new classification society was not included into the list of classification societies recognized by the current yacht register. In view of priority to preserve the new class, Interlegal yachting lawyers provided several jurisdictions for yacht registration, both suitable for yacht owner and yacht operation terms and recognizing the new classification society. The most optimal variant for the Claimant was Panama; the process resulted in successful registration under the Panamanian flag.
Based on work results, we may state that class obtaining procedure for commercial or pleasure yacht should take into account regulations of the current or targeted yacht flag.
