Jeffrey Blum has been involved in shipping and trading since 1972. He is the fourth generation of a shipping family, has been a member of the Baltic Exchange since 1976 and has worked with a Lloyd’s underwriter and as a shipbroker, charterer, ship owner, ship operator, gasoil futures broker and commodities trader in London and abroad.
Interlink International Trading (UK) Ltd was founded by him in 1994, providing maritime and commodities commercial claims consultancy and bespoke corporate training. His clients include oil majors, commodity traders, shipowners, P&I Clubs, shipbrokers, law firms, governments and international shipping organisations.
In 2002, Jeffrey founded and is the principal lecturer of Maritime Education & Training Ltd.
He has written articles for trade magazines and chapters for several trade books. He is revising the 12th edition of a major shipping textbook.
An Honorary Associate since 1979, he achieved Fellowship of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in 1997. He is a long-term active arbitrator as Supporting Member of the London Maritime Arbitrators Association (LMAA) since 1994, a panelist arbitrator with Singapore Chamber of Maritime Arbitration (SCMA) since 2019 and has been an arbitrator (both sole and tribunal) and expert witness on many cases since 1983. In addition, he has been a member of the Baltic Exchange Expert Witness Association since its creation in 2008 and its Chairman since 2020.
He achieved Fellowship of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers by examination in 1979 and has served on the ICS International Controlling Council, Membership Committee and the UK & Ireland Zone Committee. He has served on the London & South East Branch Committee since 1983, including as its Chairman 2005-2007, Vice Chairman 2015-2017 and Education Officer 2000 – date.
Since 1984 he has been lecturing on several subjects of Maritime Studies and Law at universities and colleges in London and throughout the UK. He lectures annually as a Visiting Professor at both the IMO’s World Maritime University and the Shanghai Maritime University and is a frequent guest presenter at bespoke and public seminars worldwide.
