The 9th Annual Young Maritime Lawyers Seminar in Hamburg (was a fantastic opportunity to meet other maritime lawyers from European countries. It combined high-level practical discussions of cases dealing with different aspects of maritime law with a unique opportunity for informal networking, a basis for exchange of views and building of friendship over the years.
Two days were dedicated to case studies of collision, general average and salvage issues in the Northern European ports and maritime arbitration in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, UK and France. Partner of Interlegal Arthur Nitsevych commented on maritime arbitration and its practice in the jurisdictions where Interlegal has been practicing – Ukraine, Russia, Georgia, Turkey, Moldova and Bulgaria.
More than 120 lawyers from 9 European countries attended the event in the beautiful venue – The International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea. ITLOS is an independent judicial body established by the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea to adjudicate disputes arising out of the interpretation and application of the Convention. The Tribunal is composed of 21 independent members, elected from among persons enjoying the highest reputation for fairness and integrity and of recognized competence in the field of the law of the sea..
The YMLA seminars and the informal network of colleagues and friends across borders which had been developed over the years stand for a truly European approach and the spirit of the European integration project.
