Shipping today is always a challenge, as a vessel is exposed to risks at all stages of transportation. Unfortunately, this is precisely the trouble that befell our client, a shipowner whose vessel was attacked by three missiles fired by the Houthi while passing through the Gulf of Aden
The attack caused a large-scale fire that quickly engulfed not only the vessel itself but also the cargo, which, unfortunately, was almost entirely burnt.
Our legal team responded promptly by providing comprehensive real-time legal advice and assisting in making critical commercial decisions at key moments.
Legal support included assistance with insurance, General Average, wreck removal, and salvage operations at sea.
Our team helped the client understand all the nuances of the case from a legal perspective and formulate the right approach aimed at mitigating losses.
As a result, the client:
- Received a clear legal vision of the situation for making informed commercial decisions;
- Significantly minimized financial losses incurred as a result of the incident;
- Resolved the difficult situation regarding the vessel and cargo with the least possible losses.
This case vividly demonstrates that Interlegal’s legal expertise covers not only issues related to damages to vessels caused by Russian aggression in the Black Sea but also other global incidents involving vessels worldwide. We work internationally, and our experience extends far beyond Ukrainian seaports.
The Interlegal law team led the project: associate attorneys Taras Dragan and Mykyta Kocherba, claims handler Oleksii Bannykh, and junior lawyer Dmytro Karetnikov, under the management of associate partner Karyna Gorovaya.
If your vessel or cargo suddenly comes under fire or suffers significant losses, our team is ready to resolve the matter quickly, comprehensively, and professionally. Interlegal is your reliable partner in any circumstances!
