Ukraine is doing all the best in order to stabilize operation of civil shipping in the Black Sea.
On August 8, 2023, Ukraine announced on creation of temporary corridors for merchant vessels heading to/from the Ukrainian Black Sea ports .
In order to secure operation of the corridors, jointly with adopting COASTAL WARNING 124/23, the Regulation on the Procedure for passage to the ports of Ukraine through the northwestern Black Sea in the war conditions was adopted on 10.08.2023.
It provides for the following:
– procedure for formation and approval of plans for calls to the Ukrainian sea ports (Chornomorsk, Odesa, Pivdennyi);
– procedure for vessel traffic along the approved routes (depending on draft);
– leadership of vessels and escort during traffic along the routes;
– procedure for inspection of vessels calling at the Ukrainian sea ports;
– procedure for regulating vessel traffic and pilotage;
– mine safety;
– search and rescue support.
We remind also on the Procedure for providing guarantees on reimbursement of damages caused to charterers, operators and/or owners of sea-going vessels and inland navigation vessels due to military aggression of the russian federation.
Effectiveness of the adopted mechanisms has been confirmed by the fact that m/v JOSEPH SCHULTE left Odesa Sea Port yesterday, on 16.08.2023.
For any clarifications and comments regarding operation of the corridor and terms for approval of vessel entry/exit, Interlegal law firm will provide the necessary explanations with great pleasure.
