International Arbitration Readings in memory of Academician Igor Pobirchenko in Kiev

Interlegal junior lawyer Irina Yakimovskaya participated in the jubilee V International Arbitration Readings in memory of Academician Igor Pobirchenko held in Kiev on October 4, 2018.
This year, topic of the arbitration readings was: New York Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Arbitral Awards: 60 Years of Success.

In the opening ceremony, Nikolay Selivon, Chairman of the International Commercial Arbitration Court at the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, noted that New York Convention serves as grounds for international commercial arbitration development throughout the world. He mentioned also judicial reforms in Ukraine, in particular, amendments to procedural laws, and called for analysis of the Ukrainian experience in recognition and enforcement of arbitration awards in view of new standards.

At the conference, leading international experts in international arbitration – delegates from Italy, Turkey, the USA, Poland, the United Kingdom, Canada and other countries presented their report. Such issues as application of New York Convention in other countries and practice of arbitration award enforcement in other jurisdictions awoke particular attention and interests.

Arbitrators and experts from the leading global arbitration institutes, judicial and business representatives, scientists, advocates and lawyers specialized in foreign economic activity and international commercial arbitrations participated in the arbitration readings.
