The problem occurred at the Egyptian port of Abu Qir due to failure to pay the agreed freight to the  ship owner. The bank in which the receiver’s account was opened, turned out to be blocked due to sanctions of USA and EU against several Russian companies and natural persons. Due to failure to pay the freight, ship owner withheld cargo for several weeks. The situation was complicated by the nature of perishable cargo which was not subject to long-term storage on board of the vessel. Experts from Interlegal – Nataliya Myroshnychenko, the associated partner, and Andrey Perepelitsa, the lawyer, arranged the conclusion of special agreement between the parties. According to that agreement, in order to provide vessel discharge, the freight amount was paid to escrow account. Interlegal also acted as escrow agent.

After cargo discharge in Abu Qir experts from Interlegal performed effective settlement of consignee’s claims upon cargo quality/quantity and prevented vessel arrest in Egypt.
